Happy Earth Day! Celebrate with HumaniTea

The 22nd April marks World Earth Day which is celebrated all over the world. Some even treat April as an Earth Month, in a bid to get people to think about how we affect the environment in everyday life.

Each year there is a different theme for Earth Day, and this year the theme is “restore our Earth”

History of Earth Day

This year Earth Day will be celebrating its 51st anniversary as it was created in 1970 following a great oil spill in 1969. Wisconsin Senator, Gaylord Nelson, was inspired by student protests throughout the 1960’s, and he had been long concerned about the environment.

Young activist Denis Hayes also got involved with the idea, and organised events to inspire Americans to get involved with changing the world. By creating the name “Earth Day”, this gained national attention and 20 million Americans joined with the campaign to protest against oil spills, industrial development, toxic dumps, pesticides, and more.

The first Earth Day led to massive changes in US laws, as President Richard Nixon helped to create the Environmental Protection Agency which then led to the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act.

Now, Earth Day is a day to increase awareness of environmental problems and it encourages people from countries all over the world to come together to make small changes such as planting trees.

How HumaniTea commits to protecting the environment

HumaniTea is proud to be a social enterprise that is 100% plant-based, and commits to using ethically sourced ingredients that are organic, and fairtrade.

We ensure that we are eco-friendly and use recyclable packaging- as well as donating 5%+ of post-tax profit to wellbeing and sustainability initiatives.

Ethical sourcing and sustainability are what makes HumaniTea good for humanity! We are solely plant-based as we use oat milk instead of dairy, which makes it perfect for vegans and those who are lactose-intolerant.

Oat milk is also one of the most eco-friendly milks created in terms of emissions and water usage, so we are proud to be healthy, sustainable, natural, and of course, delicious!

If you are looking to change your lifestyle to be more sustainable, we recommend trying out plant-based food and drink. Start off with any of our flavours- Earl Grey Oat Milk Classic Tea Latte, or Matcha Oat Milk Green Tea Latte.

They provide you with a healthy yet tasty beverage that is perfect to drink any time due to its natural antioxidants and no caffeine crash!

You can also try swapping dairy milk for oat milk, reduce your weekly meat intake, or swap it out for some meat alternatives such as quorn.

What you can do for Earth Day

As well as trying out plant-based food and drinks, there are other ways you can help the environment on Earth Day- or any day.

  1. Reduce your plastic usage: Go plastic free one day of the week, because even small changes can really make a difference. A great way to reduce plastic is to purchase a metal water bottle instead of keep buying plastic ones.
  2. Pick up litter: Littering is still an issue in the modern world. It can end up in drains or in the ocean, and this is damaging to our world. If you see any litter, pick it up and bin it. You may know an area that is polluted with rubbish, so take a bag and pick it up.
  3. Reduce your carbon footprint: If you have a car, think about the ways you can limit its use. If the journey isn’t too long, you could walk, cycle or take public transport. It is great to get out in nature, and now that the weather is turning warmer, it is great to walk to your destination.

These acts will not massively impact your day to day life, but these individual changes can help to reduce climate change and protect our Earth.
